  1. Peter Hurd on Paper

    March 30, 2018, 9:00 AM - August 12, 2018, 5:00 PM @ Roswell Museum and Art Center

    During his tenure as a war art correspondent in the 1940s, Hurd began painting larger, finished works with watercolor, using the medium as a portable alternative to egg tempera. After World War II, Hurd continued creating larger watercolor paintings, and continued producing sketches and studies for later works. With their fluid, informal lines and energetic brushwork, Hurd’s works on paper offer an intimate, gestural foil to his egg tempera paintings. Drawn from the permanent collection, Peter Hurd on Paper invites viewers to explore the Roswell Museum and Art Center’s holdings of studies and finished watercolor paintings. Scheduled to be on view during the exhibition Magical and Real: Henriette Wyeth and Peter Hurd, A Retrospective, this installation is both a continuation of that show and an independent exhibition that can be enjoyed on its own. No strings, no nothing, other than a nutritious USDA approved meal. Lunch is served from 12:00 to 12:30pm and an afternoon snack is served from 3:00-3:15pm.

  5. Hurd & Wyeth: Picturing the Hondo Valley

    Magical & Real: Henriette and Peter Hurd, A Retrospective, is the first exhibition to explore all aspects of the careers of this artist couple-from their earliest successes in the 1920s to their late career works- and to place their work within the larger context of the 20th century American art. Co-organized with the Roswell Museum and Art Center in New Mexico, the exhibition is also the first scholarly project to probe private collections and family archives highlighting their relationships to other family members, particularly N.C. and Andrew Wyeth- and the first to evaluate their work within the broad context of the 20th century American Art.   10. Historical Society for SENM Wyeth Hurd Exhibit

    Wyeth Hurd Gallery, in cooperation with the Historical Southeast for New Mexico, will present a one week exhibition of paintings by four generations of the Wyeth Hurd family as a tribute to the History of the family legacy. The exhibition will include works by N.C. Wyeth, Peter Hurd, Henriette Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, John W. McCoy, Jamie Wyeth, Peter W. Rogers, Carol Hurd, Michael Hurd, David C. Rogers and Peter de La Fuente. Opening of the exhibition will be on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Historical Society for SENM museum where you can come and go from 1-4pm. It will continue throughout the week until June 23 from 1-4pm each day. Peter de La Fuente will present a 20 minute documentary titled, "Egg Tempera, A Wyeth Hurd Tradition", followed by a short lecture about the medium of egg tempera and their long family history in the Roswell area. It will be on Sunday, June 17th at 3pm in the Historical Society for SENM Archives Facility 208 North Lea Ave. (directly next door to the museum)

    Way Way Off Broadway Theatre presents the iconic musical "Grease". The movie version celebrates this year its 40th anniversary. The audience gets transported back to the year 1959 and follows the adventures of the boy cliques, T-Birds, and its female counter part, Pink Ladies at Rydell High School. Her clients (victims) are the cantankerous “half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder and a young artist named Ambrose, who is in love with Horace’s niece, Ermengarde. Dolly’s scheming soon involves Horace’s employees as well as a New York hatmaker, as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs.
